Busy Times
Things have been very busy and almost hectic lately. The puppies are growing fast and are learning to enjoy their freedom. Time in the living room or kitchen seems to be a favorite and they complain when they are feeling left out by being in the puppy box. While in the box they are wonderful about using the litter pan. If you watch them on camera you will often see them trot to the left lower corner. Chances are they are going over to use the litter. This makes for much easier clean up for us. Mostly we just have to clean up the pellets that get tracked around and ground into the floor. I vacuum them up and then scrub the floor and sides with a vinegar mixture which is non toxic but also sanitizes. Out of the box they are not so good, but fortunately Boston is still walking behind them and keeping the house clean. What an amazing mother!
Meantime, I had to go out of town for a 4-H event over night and right before I left our Pomeranian Tisha broke her left front leg. I was able to make a splint out of emery boards and vet wrap, gave her some pain meds and left. Mike followed up with a trip to the vets the next morning. Yes, we did call the emergency vet but they told us that it could wait until morning and that all they would do is put a temporary splint and give her pain meds. She is back with a cast on her leg and hopefully is on the mend. This is very common with Pomeranians and we have even had Poms break their legs and go on to become champion show dogs. Tisha seems to be in good spirits and is hopping around the living room and enjoying the special treatment afforded those dogs in R&R mode.
Both Mike and I have a three day weekend, and today will be spent getting ready for all the puppy visitors we are expecting this weekend. We love seeing the joy they bring to those coming by to see the real deal! Web cams are great but the heart does flip flops when you hold one of the babies in your arms.

Outdoor Fun
The puppies are now venturing outdoors for play sessions. Some involve neighborhood children and lots of yogurt, then there are the new toys. As you can see, Orange girl has a sparkle in her eyes as she checks it out. And when they are tuckered out, Boston shares a peaceful moment as they enjoy a moment of closeness and warm milk.

Pupdate
Last night we expanded the whelping box. The bumper sides (roll bars) were taken off and the four foot sides were replaced with eight foot sections. A litter box filled with paper pellets has been placed in the corner. It is a little bit early for the litter box since Boston is still cleaning up after them, but I expect mid week they will begin to use it. That will be about the time we start them on whole food which will be soaked puppy crunches. Meantime the camera has been adjusted but we haven't yet found the perfect angle. We may need to build a shelf to put it on, so be patient. Your view may be partial for a couple of days but we will try to make it so you can see most of the box. The pups are also venturing outdoors and into the living room for socialization visits. If you tune in and don't see puppies, they are probably just having fun and will be back shortly.

Living Room Time
In the evening we take the puppies into the living room for socialization time. They love to play with each other and their mom as we watch. It is good for them to experience new sights, sounds and smells as they explore. Orange girl is one to try eating just about anything including the fringe on our rug. But after an hour or so of playing, they sack out where ever they are. Orange fell asleep by the rug and Red girl was checking out the armoire when she fell asleep like a frog.

And he's off...
... and running. Tonight yellow boy got out of the box! So now the side is up and Boston will have to jump over the two feet to get in to her puppies. Since she has been jumping every baby gate in the house, I suppose that is no big deal to her. The baby gates are supposed to keep the Poms in the right place, and the Samoyeds respect the gates...at least until this litter arrived. Now Boston thinks they are just something to keep everyone else out, not her!
Play Time
Last night we brought the puppies out to the living room to play. They had a great time and Boston played with them and then nursed them on the living room carpet. One puppy fell asleep draped over a pillow. They are beginning to interact with each other and are quite vocal. Yellow boy loves to howl! Someone asked when they get names. Their new owners will be naming them. Registered names will have Solid Gold in them, but call names are the new owners heart's desire. We already have a name picked out for the one we will be keeping, but until we know which puppy that is, we aren't going to say.

Christie says good-bye
Kodiak's family Christie and Blake are moving to Colorado on Friday, but before they left they came by to see the puppies. It seems like just yesterday when Christie first visited to pick out Kodiak as a puppy. He was just about the same age as his grand pups are now. Christie was only 15 and he was her first champion. Now she is married and headed off on a grand adventure and new life. Looks like Orange girl had a lot to say to her!

Three Weeks
The puppies turned three weeks old in the middle of the night. They are beginning to play with each other and are awake a lot more often. Boston spends hours outside the box, leaving them time to explore. One minute two are wrestling while one of them takes a nap in the corner and then next minute nap time is over and we have secrets to tell.
