The Phantom Menace
The latest at Solid Gold Samoyeds and DreamWeaver Pomeranians on the shores of Lake Michigan
Mike's favorite Pomeranian Digger is a 12 year young retired champion. After seeing me compete in rally over the last few years, Mike wanted to try it out. With a little work he proved you can teach an old dog new tricks. Digger now has two Qs in novice rally and needs only one more to finish his title. However the real point is that he LOVES training with Mike and the two of them are once again enjoying time alone together. There is a wonderful feeling of teamwork when you are in the ring together and it can make your heart all warm and fuzzy. Check out Mike and Digger on the back half of the Novice A rally course yesterday.
Our sweet Snicker Doodles went to the Rainbow Bridge tonight. She was the sweetest dog who faced her handicaps with great courage and tenacity. She was determined, smart, and tough...quick to tell us what she needed, grateful when we would help her. She couldn't see well but she always knew our voices, our touch and our scent. Snickers was greatly loved. She was joyous in the face of her struggles in life;. always with a wagging tail and a bouncing bark hello.
It is hard to imagine being out camping with dogs in subfreezing temperatures right now, but that that is exactly what 60 odd mushers are doing in Alaska as they attempt to complete the journey from Willow to Nome in the last great race. They journey by dog sled along a thousand miles of open tundra. At the moment Lance Mackey has about an eight hour lead and it looks like he will quite possibly win for the third year in a row. His team is running strong and still has 16 dogs at the most recent check point. Check it out at:
Mike is off at the Pomeranian Club of America national specialty this week in Louisville Kentucky. His sister Linda is also there up from Texas so it is a family reunion of sorts. Unfortunately some people (and dogs) have to stay home. He is having a great time. On Tuesday he went into the Rally Obedience ring for the first time and competed with Digger in Novice A. He and Digger placed 4th and got their first leg of the RN title. Way to go Digger. Digger will be 12 years old at the end of March. Today, Mike took Creme Brulee in the Bred By Exhibitor ring and even though she was out of coat she place 4th in a class of 15! Funny thing is Miss Creme has been 4th in her class at the Pom national three years running. Wonder what would happen if she ever showed up there in full coat? Congratulations to Mike and both Digger and Creme for a good showing.
